In August, Google Doodle commemorates the 116th birthday of Altina 'Tina' Schinasi, the legendary American designer known for creating the popular 'cat-eye' eyeglass frames.

Altina Schinasi- This sculptor was born on August 4, 1907, in Manhattan, New York, to immigrant parents.

Altina came to Paris after graduating from high school to pursue painting, which sparked her passion for the arts.

She later returned to the United States and studied art at The Art Students League in New York.

She began her work as a window dresser for several Fifth Avenue stores.

From developing renowned 'cat-eye' eyeglasses to designing windows- Altina's first employment after graduating from design school was with Peter Copeland.

She collaborated with him on a project to design storefront displays for Fifth Avenue retailers. She met Salvador Dali while working on this project.

Altina got the concept for these eyeglass frames after seeing some drab frames in an optician's window.

She disliked them and set out to create something beautiful and whimsical
