A major massacre has taken place in the West African country of Burkina Faso. Islamic extremists attacked farmers in the Boucle du Mohon area of this country. These suspected Islamic herdsmen killed 33 people. Provincial governor Babo Pierre Basinga described the attack as ‘cowardly and barbaric’. He said in the statement that the attack took place at around 5 pm when people were working in their fields on the banks of the river Mauhoun.
In fact, in the Boucle du Mouhoune region of Burkina Faso, the government is combating jihadist attacks. At the same time, the terrorist attack was carried out at around 5 pm on Thursday, May 11, in the village of Yulou in the department of Cheriba. Local sources said the assailants had come on a motorcycle. They were carrying dangerous weapons, which they started firing indiscriminately as soon as they arrived.
The military coup happened in 2022
There were two military coups in the year 2022 in Burkina Faso. In the most recent coup on September 30 last year, Burkinabe President Captain Ibrahim Traoré aims to recapture 40 percent of the country’s territory, which is controlled by jihadists linked to al-Qaeda and the Daesh group.
According to an NGO report, more than 10,000 were killed in the violence between the government and the rebels.
